Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar today accused the Congress party of deceiving Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana, while favouring Muslims through its reservation policies.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar accusations come at a time when Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is leading a Congress protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding the passage of bills ensuring 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections, education and employment sectors.
In a video statement, the BJP leader alleged that the Congress’ dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi was aimed at pushing for “100 per cent reservation for Muslims” rather than safeguarding BC interests. He said the party had violated its own Kamareddy Declaration and was prioritising a so-called “Muslim Declaration” to secure minority votes.
Bandi Sanjay claimed that under the guise of a 42 per cent BC quota, Congress plans to allocate 10 per cent to Muslims and only 32 per cent to BCs, which effectively leaves just 5 per cent additional benefit for BCs over the existing 27 per cent provided by the Modi government.
“Congress is cheating the BCs while conspiring to make Hindus a minority in Telangana. Ambedkar opposed religious reservations, and we will block any such unconstitutional move,” he asserted, warning that “this poisonous tree of Muslim reservations” could spread across the country if not stopped.
He criticised Congress for its historical neglect of BCs, questioning why the party never made a person from the Backward Classes either the Prime Minister or Chief Minister of a state despite being in power for decades.
Drawing a comparison with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the minister said the BJP has elevated the ranks of BCs by assigning them top positions, including the inclusion of 27 BC leaders in the Union Cabinet, and appointment of a person from BC as the Prime Minister for three consecutive terms.
Bandi Sanjay also targeted Telangana Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, asking him why no BC leader was given prominence in either the state cabinet or parliamentary nominations.
The minister also warned that soon BCs and weaker sections would turn against Congress, as they have done in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal, and Tamil Nadu.
“Congress is shedding crocodile tears for BCs. The day is not far when the BC community and the Hindu society will teach it a fitting lesson,” he said.
