Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb filed his nomination for the forthcoming bye-elections to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Tripura, here on Monday, on the last day of filing nomination.
Deb, whose name was announced by the BJP last week as its nominee, filed his nomination in presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and others.
“Submitted my nomination as a BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha election from Tripura,” the former CM wrote in a tweet shortly after filing his nomination.
Deb also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for reposing their faith in him.
“I will always work for the development and welfare of Tripura,” he said.
The parliament seat fell vacant following Saha’s resignation after he was elected MLA from Town Bardowali constituency.
The bye-elections will be held on September 22 from 9 am to 4 pm, and the counting of votes will take place the same day.
