BJP leader booked by J&K police in Srinagar

Srinagar: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Member Haj Committee of India, Aijaz Hussain has been booked by J&K Police for wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing hurt after two men accused him of assault and harassment in Srinagar.

Hussain is also Srinagar district development council (DDC) member from Balhama.

J&K Police said a case against a DDC member was filed in police station Panthachowk on the basis of a complaint lodged by Nazim Hussain Bhat and Imdad Ali Mir.

“On the basis of complaint lodged by Nazim Hussain Bhat & Imdad Ali Mir, FIR no 51/2023 u/s 323,341 of IPC dated 30.05.2023 registered in Panthachowk PS against DDC member Aijaz Hussain Rather on offences of wrongful restraint & voluntarily causing hurt,” a tweet by Srinagar police said.

The family from Balhama who had allegedly been assaulted at Sempora on Srinagar outskirts also staged a protest on Tuesday evening against the DDC member.

The issue of alleged assault by the DDC member was also flagged by Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Mattu.

“A reign of TERROR has been unleashed on people of Balhama, Srinagar by the incumbent DDC Member belonging to @BJP4India! This is the second assault on a civilian by him in less than a month! Even WOMEN are being assaulted now — under FULL security cover,” Mattoo said in a tweet.

DDC member Hussain responded to Matoo’s tweet and alleged that the persons who staged protest were actually land mafia who have grabbed pandit property and state land.

“Mr. Matoo I was not knowing that you are also part of the land mafia. The persons who staged drama are actually land mafia who have grabbed pandit property and state land ,filled thousands of Kanals of Agricultural land and notices to them are served by Naib Tehsildar Concerned,” he tweeted.
