Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win two seats out of three in the Zila Panchayat bye-elections which were held on Monday. Congress failed to win any seat.

The third seat was won by an independent candidate. The results of the ZP bye-elections were declared Tuesday.

While BJP-supported candidates Paresh Naik and Sandeep Bandodkar won the Davorlim and Reis Magos ZP Constituency bye-elections, the third ZP seat of Cortalim went to an Independent, Merciana Vaz.

The Congress came third in two constituencies and last in Reis Magos.

Reacting to the results, BJP Goa unit President Sadanand Shet Tanavade challenged the opposition to put in a fight against the ruling party for the Lok Sabha polls to be held in 2024.

It is a clear message to those who used to say that BJP won the election due to division of votes, he said.

BJP National President J P Nadda thanked people of the coastal state for choosing BJP in the ZP elections.

‘I thank the people of Goa for choosing the BJP in Zila Panchayat elections. People across the nation have faith in the BJP’s progressive & developmental politics led by Hon. PM @narendramodi Ji. Congratulations to CM @DrPramodPSawant, @ShetSadanand and @BJP4Goa for this victory,’ Nadda tweeted.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant too thanked the people for reposing their faith in the party.

‘I thank the people of Goa for reposing their faith in the pro-development agenda of BJP by giving a clear 3-0 victory in favour of BJP+ in Zilla Panchayat Bye-Elections. Under the leadership PM @narendrmodi ji & with the guidance of BJP National President Shri @JPNadda ji & HM Shri @AmitShah ji the BJP Government in Goa continues to work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people,’ Dr Sawant tweeted.

Goa Congress President termed the bypolls as a lesson for the party and vowed to rebuild it.
