Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected the interim bail plea filed by former minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik on medical grounds in an alleged money laundering case registered by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) related to underworld fugitive Dawood Ibrahim.

Justice Anuja Prabhudessai, while rejecting the plea, said she will hear the NCP leader’s bail plea on merits in two weeks.

Jailed NCP leader Nawab Malik had moved for bail on medical grounds, stating that he could be considered a sick person as defined under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and hence entitled to be released on bail.

Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on February 23, 2022, in an alleged money laundering case involving fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim for usurping land at a price much below the market rate.
