Washington: Canada will continue to pursue accountability for the Iranian regime, including listing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
“There is more to do, to hold the regime to account, and we will continue our work, including continuing to look for ways to responsibly list the IRGC as a terrorist organization and explore any and all other options,” Trudeau said on Monday.
The prime minister made the remarks during an event to commemorate the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752.
The airplane was shut down by Iran on January 8, 2020, shortly after takeoff from the Tehran’s international airport. All 167 passengers on board the airplane – mostly Canadian and Iranian citizens – died, including nine Ukrainian crew members.
Iran said it mistakenly shot down the airplane after it mistook it for a cruise missile at a time when the country’s air defenses were on high alert following strikes on a US military base in Iraq.
