Chennai:Big time hockey action comes back to Chennai after 16 years, when the seventh edition of Asian Champions Trophy hockey champonship will be held at the Egmore Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here from August 3 to 12.
Talking to reporters here today, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said India would be hosting this event for the first time.
Apart from India, three-time winners and defending champion South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and China will be taking part in the tournament, which would be a precursor to the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China in September.
The last international hockey event hosted by Chennai was the Asian Cup in 2007 which Inda won.
Hockey India Officials said Pakistan was yet to confirm its participation and promised to provide adequate security if it agreed to participate in it.
