Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of failing to prevent major terrorist attacks and succumbing to foreign pressure on matters of national security.

In a recent interaction with the media, Rai questioned the government’s inability to avert terror attacks such as the hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight, the Pulwama attack, the Pahalgam tragedy, and the Parliament attack, all of which, he claimed, occurred under BJP rule.

“If the BJP is as capable as it claims, then why did it fail to prevent these incidents?” Rai asked. “The government even released terrorist Masood Azhar after treating him to biryani. This is something the nation must hold them accountable for.”

Rai also raised doubts over the now-stalled ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which was reportedly aimed at reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He alleged that the operation was abandoned due to business pressures from US President Donald Trump.

“The Prime Minister must explain why the operation was halted,” he said. “Had the government been vigilant, attacks like the one in Pahalgam could have been prevented.”
Accusing the BJP of creating social divisions, Rai cited recent incidents in Varanasi, including the Daal Mandi redevelopment project and the controversy over QR codes and name tags during the Kanwar Yatra, as attempts to polarize communities to distract from governance failures.

He also criticized the continuation of India-Pakistan cricket matches despite the suspension of water and trade ties between the two nations. Alleging that these matches are driven by gambling and financial interests, he questioned the role of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “This match should be cancelled immediately,” he demanded.

On national security, Rai praised the Indian Army for its unwavering commitment in the fight against terrorism. “Our soldiers deserve the highest respect for their sacrifice and service,” he said.

Condemning recent incidents of disrespect toward women, Rai added, “Whether it’s Dimple Yadav or an ordinary woman, every woman deserves dignity and respect.”

With these serious allegations, Rai has intensified the Congress party’s criticism of the BJP ahead of key political developments in Uttar Pradesh and across the country.
