Conservative Jalili outpacing reformist Pezeshkian in Iran Elections- EC

Tehran: Former nuclear negotiator conservative Saeed Jalili is outpacing his reformist rival ex-health minister Masoud Pezeshkian in Iran’s presidential elections, according to a preliminary vote count, the country’s election commission, located in the Islamic Republic’s Interior Ministry, said.

“A total of 8,379,341 ballots have been counted. Saeed Jalili is gaining 3,505,191 votes, Masoud Pezeshkian – 3,389,191 votes, [parliament speaker] Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf – 1,116,659 votes, and [ex-interior minister] Mostafa Pourmohammadi – 62,310 votes,” IRNA news agency quoted the election commission’s statement.

Voting in the presidential elections took place in Iran on Friday.
