CPM smells a rat in recruitment of Group C posts in Tripura

Agartala: Complaining of depriving the residents of Tripura of the Joint Recruitment Board (JRB) exam for filling up the posts of Group C (Non-Gazetted), opposition CPM demanded to publish details of the selected candidates with their residential addresses.

The previous BJP-IPFT government led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had constituted JRB for filling up all Group C and D posts under Tripura government in November 2020 and tactfully erased the mandatory requirement of Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Tripura in the selection criteria, which had triggered agitation from the first day.

The opposition CPI-M, and Congress raised demands to make PRC mandatory for recruitment but the government didn’t accept it. As a result, a large number of candidates from West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana appeared for the tests for filling up the posts of Group-C and D categories under Tripura government, alleged senior CPM leader and former Labour Minister of left front government Manik Dey.

Over 1.57 candidates across the country had applied to fill up 2410 posts of Group C and D in the various departments. A year later, JRB hosted the written exams by CBSE, the questions of which were very high standard, unusual in nature, and not related to the job of Group C and D, Dey alleged adding, “It was a move to give the job to a sizable number of non-residents of Tripura.”

“After three years of long waiting and much agitation, last week the result was published for filling up 1980 Group C posts, whereas interviews were taken for 2410 posts, and in the selection list, JRB only mentioned the names of candidates by hiding their residential addresses,” Dey alleged.

He expressed doubts over the selection of many eligible candidates from other parts of the country by depriving domiciles of Tripura despite thousands of eligible and qualified candidates.

“If JRB is to maintain transparency in the selection process should release complete postal addresses of all successful candidates and should also give clarification as to why they are not filling up other vacant posts despite having a number of qualified candidates in Tripura and why not they maintain the reservation for ST, SC and others” Dey pointed out.

“Usually, such posts are kept for the local youths across the country, as due to several odds the job seekers of these categories in Tripura have not been getting scope to explore many employment opportunities outside. Surprisingly, Tripura government has opened up the scope for outsiders allegedly with ulterior motives,” he complained.
