Imphal: In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, the State Police and security forces yesterday have made multiple significant arrests and seizures, including unaccounted cash, illicit liquor, and the apprehension of active insurgent cadres from banned outfits.
Police said following a drug seizure made on July 22 at a residence in Suangdoh village, Churachandpur district, police conducted a follow-up search at the same location. During the operation, they recovered Rs 39,33,300 in cash, which had been stashed in a bag. The money is suspected to be connected to the earlier drug haul. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
In a separate operation, security forces arrested an active member of a banned insurgent group from the Tentha Khunou Bazar area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district.
The individual was allegedly involved in extortion, issuing monetary demands, intimidation, and kidnapping in the region. A mobile handset was seized from his possession.
Three active cadres of a proscribed underground group were apprehended from various locations in Imphal East district. Two of them were intercepted in Huidrom village while reportedly heading to a brick field to collect extortion money. Based on information obtained during questioning, a third associate was later arrested from Kairang Maning Leikai. Items recovered from them included a scooter, two mobile phones, a wallet containing Rs 700, and three identity cards.
In a separate action in Imphal East, another member of a banned group was arrested from his residential locality.
In an anti-smuggling operation, police also arrested two individuals from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station. A total of 16,073 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), comprising various brands, were recovered from their possession. The estimated market value of the seized liquor is Rs55 lakh.
These operations form part of an intensified campaign by Manipur Police and allied forces to tackle drug trafficking, insurgency, and organized criminal activities in the state. Further investigations are underway, police added.
