Thiruvananthapuram: The ongoing 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) continues to captivate audiences with an impressive lineup of films and events.
On its fourth day, the festival promises an exciting mix of screenings and discussions for cinephiles.
The Monday’s schedule features a wide range of categories, including 7 films from the International Competition, three from Indian Cinema Now, one from Restored Classics, 30 from World Cinema, two from Signatures in Motion, three from Latin American Cinema, one from the Madhu Ambat Retrospective, five from Malayalam Cinema Today, three Festival Favourites, two from Country Focus, three from the Female Gaze, and two from the Lifetime Achievement Award category.
Aravindan Memorial Lecture by Beatrice Thiriet will be a key event of the day.
The Other Side, directed by Indu Lakshmi, will be screened in Kairali Theatre at 6 pm. The story revolves around a teenage girl navigating inner turmoil and societal taboos to honor a promise to her mother, confronting gender discrimination and superstitions in contemporary India.
The 4K restored version of Akira Kurosawa’s legendary ‘Seven Samurai’ (1954), set in Japan’s Sengoku period, will be showcased at 8 pm in Kairali Theatre.
Mahdi Fleifel’s ‘To a Land Unknown’ from World Cinema Category will play at 3.15 PM in Sree Theatre. The film follows Chatila and Reda, two refugees navigating Athens’ underbelly as they struggle with Reda’s drug addiction.
‘1:16, An Ode to Lost Love’ from the Madhu Ambat Retrospective category will be screened at 5.45 pm in Nila. The movie was Ambat’s directorial debut. The film explores a complex romance between a filmmaker, his cinematographer, and an actress, tangled further by family involvement.
‘Holy Cow by Louise Courvoisier’ under Female Gaze Category will screen at 6 pm in Ariesplex. It tells the story of an easy-going 18-year-old Totone, who takes on the responsibilities of caring for his 7-year-old sister while striving to win for a prestigious agricultural prize.
Mrinal Sen’s ‘The Ruins’ in Celebrating Shabana Azmi will play at 3 pm in Ariesplex, capturing the emotional journey of a photographer who finds himself drawn to a woman while pretending to be her suitor in a remote village.
