Depression over Bay crosses coast

Chennai: The Depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast close to North of Chennai on Thursday morning.

In an update, Met office sources said the Depression over westecentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal moved westnorthwestwards with a speed of 14 kmph during the past six hours and crossed the North Tamil Nadu-South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, close to North of Chennai, around 0430 hrs today.

Subsequently, it weakened into a well marked low pressure area and lay centred over South coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood at 0530 hrs of today.

It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and weaken further into a low pressure area during the next 12 hours., it said.
