EAM meets FMs of UK, Mexico, Comoros, EU Foreign Policy chief

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday held bilateral meetings with visiting UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, EU Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell, Mexican FM Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon and Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, of Comoros who is also Chair of the African Union, ahead of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting here.

On his meeting with the UK Foreign Secretary, the EAM said in tweets that the two sides reviewed the progress in the bilateral relationship since their last discussion.

“Began the morning with a bilateral meeting with Foreign Secretary @JamesCleverly of the UK.

“Reviewed the progress in our relationship since our last discussion. Noted in particular the commencement of the Young Professional Scheme.

“Also exchanged views on the global situation as well as the G20 agenda.”

The UK Foreign Secretary in a tweet said the two sides stand united as friends and partners.

“India and the UK stand united as friends and partners.

“We are working together for the benefit of both our great nations,” Cleverly posted.

On his meeting with Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the EAM said their conversation focused on the G20 agenda and the Ukraine conflict.

“Appreciated the steady growth of India-EU cooperation,” he tweeted.

Josep Borrell, in a tweet ahead of the talks said he was looking forward to strengthening of India-EU ties.

“Glad to be back in #India for the @g20org foreign ministers meeting and the @raisinadialogue.

“Looking forward to productive discussions on global challenges and strengthening EU – India relations.”

On his meeting with the Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, the EAM said the two sides focused on issues related to growth and development.

“A warm meeting with FM @m_ebrard of Mexico on #G20FMM sidelines.

“Noted our strong multilateral cooperation and discussed the G20 agenda. Focused on issues related to growth and development.

“Bilateral ties have progressed significantly in recent years. Welcomed the opening of Mexican Consulate in Mumbai. Exchanged ideas on mobility, sustainability and innovation,” he tweeted.

He also met his counterpart from Comoros Dhoihir Dhoulkamal. Comoros, an island nation in southeastern Africa, is the current chair of the African Union.

“Glad to welcome Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, FM of Comoros and Chair of African Union at the #G20FMM.

“Reiterated our steadfast support to our maritime neighbour, guided by our SAGAR policy.

“Assured him that India’s G20 Presidency will prioritize the voice of the Global South,” the EAM posted.
