ECI transfers 4 non-cadre DMs in as many dists of West Bengal

Kolkata: Ahead of Lok Sabha’s first phase poll beginning on April 19, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday issued transfer orders for non-cadre officers who are posted at leadership positions as District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) in five states, including West Bengal, official sources said.

The ECI ordered the immediate transfer of poll-bound Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, Purba Bardhaman, and Birbhum districts of south Bengal.

The posts of DMs and SPs in the district are encoded for officers from the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service, respectively.

The Commission recently removed Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar and appointed 1989 IPS cadre Sanjay Mukherjee as the new DGP.

The ECI issued a notification issued a notification on Wednesday for the first phase of polling to be held in April.

West Bengal has three Lok Sabha voting in the first phase for Cooch Behar, Alipuduar, and Jalpaigiri in north Bengal.
