ED arrests two, freezes assets in money laundering case

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing the alleged money laundering case of LFS Broking Pvt Ltd has arrested two accused, Dilip Kumar Maity and Md Anarul Islam, and frozen their moveable and immoveable property under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, official sources said.

The federal investigation agency said its Kolkata zonal office had conducted search operations at various premises linked to LFS Broking Pvt. Ltd. and its directors/associates. During the search operations it has frozen 118 bank accounts and 63 numbers of immovable properties, worth several crores of rupees, which comes now under the prohibition from sale or transfer.

The frozen immovable properties include 2 hotels, a resort, land parcels, a residential bungalow, flats and a property in Eagle Heights, Dubai, the ED said in a statement.

The market value of these properties is being ascertained, the ED added.

The duo was produced before a Special Court (PMLA) in Kolkata, which granted the ED custody for 11 days.
