New Delhi: India said it has taken up with the US the issue of threats issued by Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun to Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and added that it expects the US to take New Delhi’s security concerns seriously.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a briefing: “We take the threats very seriously and we raise it with the US government. In this case too, we have raised it with the US government and we expect that the US government will take our security concerns seriously.”

Pannun, leader of the banned pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), recently issued a video threatening Ambassador Kwatra. Pannun accused Kwatra of being the “face of the India-Russia terror nexus” and claimed that pro-Khalistan groups were monitoring his activities. He alleged that the Indian diplomat was coordinating with Russian officials to counter Khalistani movements in North America
