Four, including three children, drown in Ganga

Prayagraj: Four persons, including a Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and three children, drowned while taking bath in Ganga river in Phaphamau area of Prayagraj district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that Umesh Yadav (45), a resident of Lakhisarai in Bihar, was posted in 101 battalion of RAF in Shantipuram. “Umesh along with his son Vivek Raj (11), daughter Deepshikha (8) and neighbour Abhay’s son Abhinav (9) had gone to take bath at Ganga Ghat,” they said.

Police sources said that while playing the children slept into deep water and started drowning. “Seeing this Umesh too jumped into the river to save the children, but due to strong current he too drowned,” they said.

Police sources said that teams of SDRF and RAF divers reached the spot after getting the information and fished out all the four bodies. “The bodies have been sent for post mortem examination,” they said
