Una (HP): Una district police during a routine checking intercepted a vehicle and recovered 54.59 kg of pure gold bricks besides 6.7 kg more of the precious metal ahead of the November 12 Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh.
The seizure was made between Jowar and Nehrian villages of the district late Friday. The recovered gold was handed over to the Excise Department for further action, said SP Arjit Sen Thakur.
It was said that the gold was being taken to a refinery factory in Nadaun town of Hamirpur district.
According to the information, the gold came from the country of Peru and Tanzania and was on its way to Nadaun when it was confiscated from the vehicle in which it was being brought.
The police and excise department teams are examining the documents of the party that brought the gold in the vehicle, a police spokesman said.
