A heavy landslide on the Baramulla–Uri National Highway in north Kashmir, near Danakhan Mode Ecopark, brought traffic to a complete standstill for several hours. The disruption caused severe inconvenience to commuters, with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.
The prolonged blockage badly affected daily life, forcing passengers, students, office-goers, and traders to wait for hours. Several patients and emergency vehicles were also reportedly stuck during the disruption, worsening the situation and raising serious concerns about emergency preparedness on this vital highway.
Although the highway was later cleared and traffic movement was restored, locals alleged that such incidents have become routine since the widening and construction work began on the national highway stretch from Khanpora to Uri. Residents blamed repeated lapses and poor execution by contractors for frequent landslides and traffic jams, resulting in continuous hardship for the general public.
People said the absence of an alternative route has further intensified the impact of such disruptions, leaving commuters with no option but to endure long delays during landslides, road blockages, or construction-related interruptions.
Locals have urged higher authorities to seriously consider developing an alternative road from Khadiniyar to Gantamulla to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. They appealed to the concerned departments to address the issue on priority and take concrete steps to ensure safer travel and reduce public suffering in the future.
