“High-grade” heroin worth Rs. 14 crore seized in Meghalaya

Shillong: Meghalaya police on Friday seized around 1.85 Kg of “high-grade” heroin worth Rs. 14 crore from an inter-state bus and arrested three persons, a police official said.

The contraband was seized from a bus Manipur registration number MN01AA 0494 during a routine checking for illegal consignments and goods on the National Highway-6 at Mawdaron Saiden in Ri-Bhoi district, a police official said, adding that it is one of the largest seizures of heroin attempted to be smuggled to Meghalaya’s capital Shillong through a public transport.

The bus was ferrying students from Manipur to Shillong via Assam on a study tour A thorough checking of bus was conducted and as many as 158 soap boxes containing heroin hidden in the back cabin of the bus were recovered from the bus,” Giri Prasad, the district police chief of Ri-Bhoi said.

He said the driver of the bus Sadam Hussain and two of his helpers Iqbal Hussain and Rashijuddin have been arrested and booked under NDPS Act.
