Tehran: A massive fire that broke out on Monday at an oil refinery in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, has been put out, local media reported.
The fire occurred at around 3:00 p.m. local time (11:30 GMT), semi-official news agency Young Journalists Club quoted Naser Babaei, director of the refinery’s public relations office, as saying.
Babaei said the fire resulted from an explosion in three petroleum product reservoirs belonging to Aftab Oil Refining Company, adding that the cause of the explosion has not been determined yet.
Ambulances and a helicopter have been dispatched to the scene for rescue and relief work, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency.
Eight firefighters have so far been injured in the blaze, with one suffering third-degree burns, the official IRNA news agency reported.
