Chamrajnagar: A Kiran trainer aircraft on Thursday crashed into an open field at Bhogapuram village in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka while on a routine training sortie.

The two pilots aboard have landed safely using parachutes, and no casualties have been reported as of now.

“A Kiran trainer aircraft of the IAF crashed near Chamrajnagar, Karnataka today, while on a routine training sortie. Both aircrew ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” IAF tweeted.

Chamrajnagar Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathyayini Devi at the spot told reporters that two pilots ejected using the parachute and landed in the open field.

“One of the pilots sustained an injury on his back and another in his lip. They have been airlifted and rushed to the hospital at Yelahanka in Bengaluru,” she said.

The aircraft had taken off from HAL airport in Bengaluru city, Kathyayini said.

On Tuesday, a two-seater trainer aircraft belonging to Redbird Flight Training Academy had crash landed in farmland near Honnihal village, 7km from Sambra airport in Belagavi.

The aircraft had crash landed due to technical glitches. The pilot, who sustained minor injuries, was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
