New York: India has hosted the 10th IBSA Trilateral Ministerial Commission Meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York and reiterated commitment to reformed multilateralism during the meeting.

IBSA is a forum which brings together India, Brazil and South Africa- three large democracies and major economies from three different continents facing similar challenges.

“Hosted the 10th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Trilateral Ministerial Commission Meeting. Reviewed the IBSA process and recognised its activities. Appreciated its promotion of South-South cooperation, including on global and multilateral issues,” External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar wrote on Twitter.

“Reiterated commitment to reformed multilateralism. Thank FM Carlos França of Brazil and Minister of Health of South Africa Joe Phaahla for joining,” the Minister added in thread.

All the three IBSA countries, India, Brazil and South Africa, are developing, pluralistic, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-religious nations.

The grouping was formalized and named the IBSA Dialogue Forum when the Foreign Ministers of the three countries met in Brasilia on June 6, 2003 and issued the Brasilia Declaration. India is current IBSA Chair.

Earlier, India’s permanent representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj informed via Twitter that India will host the 10th IBSA Ministerial Commission of Foreign Ministers to review IBSA process and South-South cooperation. She also said that a report by four IBSA think thanks will be launched during the meeting.
