The award selection process involves a split between fan and expert voting, with fans’ votes accounting for 50% of the total and experts determining the remaining 50%. The voting took place from April 22 to 26.

Nominees included Petratos and his Mohun Bagan SG teammate Hector Yuste, as well as players from other clubs such as FC Goa’s Noah Sadaoui and Carlos Martinez, Mumbai City FC’s Lallianzuala Chhangte, Punjab FC’s Madih Talal, and NorthEast United FC’s Parthib Gogoi.

The Aussie was the outright winner among the experts as well, garnering six votes, while Sadaoui and Talal received two and one vote respectively.

After combining both sets of votes, Petratos emerged as the winner with 60%, followed by Sadaoui and Talal, who came second and third with 20% and 8% of the votes respectively.

Petratos becomes the second player to achieve back-to-back wins of the award this season, following Adrian Luna’s feat in October and November.
