Beirut: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that she will visit Lebanon on Friday, while Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani will visit Palestine and Israel next week.

“I have already planned a trip to Lebanon. Minister Tajani is also preparing to go to Israel and Palestine next week,” Meloni said in the Italian parliament on Tuesday.

Meloni later noted that she would leave for Lebanon on Friday.

Italy has demanded security for its troops and the implementation of UN Resolution 1701, which calls for support for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon, with UN forces deployed there, the minister added.

Last week, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Israeli troops shelled their headquarters and outposts. Several peacekeepers were injured.
