On Sunday, members of the Jain community, organized protest demonstrations across different Indian cities, opposing the decision of turning Shri Sammed Shikhar into a tourist spot, which is a Jain pilgrimage site, situated on the Parasnath mountain, in Jharkhand. Jains in large numbers came out onto the streets in cities like Ranchi, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. In New Delhi, the community members carried out a rally from Pragati Maidan to India Gate, and later submitted a memo to President Draupadi Murmu.

The Jain community is protesting against the Jharkhand government’s decision to turn Shri Sammed Shikhar into a tourist place. The Jain religious leaders are of the opinion that the sanctity of the pilgrimage site will be damaged if it is turned into a tourist spot. Along with this, the Jains are also demanding an inquiry into the matter of the desecration of Gujarat’s Palitana’s Jain temple. The protest demonstration was supported by AIMIM Chief, Asaduddin Owaisi and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

In Mumbai too, the protests were large-scale, and the protests were carried out in 6-7 different places. Maharashtra Minister MP Lodha claimed that 5 lakh people came out on the streets in Mumbai.
