Srinagar: Retired employees of Waqf Board have sought the intervention of J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for the release of their pending pensions.

The retired employees said that nearly 40 families are facing financial hardships due to nonpayment of pensions since April last year.

“Many retirees, including those battling severe illnesses, are struggling without their pensions, making it difficult to afford medical expenses,” said Peerzada Akhzer Hussain, a former Waqf board employee.

He said retirees were struggling without their pensions.

Hussain said an order for the release of pensions was issued, but it has not been implemented as yet.

“We now appeal to the Lt Gov to come to our rescue as we, along with our families, are facing hardships due to the halting of pensions,” he added.

According to the former employees, the current chairperson, Darakshah Andrabi, has not cleared the pension case of any retired employee ever since she joined the Waqf Board.

“Employees who got retired before her joining continue to receive their pension. But, no one from the Waqf board is giving any answer as to why our pension is not being released,” he added.

An official said the Waqf board was under transition and new rules and regulations were being implemented.

“The government has to take a call on the pension, which will be implemented by the board,” the official said.
