Barbados: Batter Keacy Carty became the first West Indies player born on the island of Sint Maarten to score an international century as the Caribbean side clinched their ODI series against England with an emphatic eight-wicket triumph here.

Carty scored an unbeaten 128 not out from just 114 deliveries as the West Indies successfully chased down England’s total of 263/8 with seven overs remaining at Kensington Oval.

It was Carty’s 50th international appearance for the West Indies and the first time he made it into triple figures as he took a liking to England’s bowling attack when hitting 15 fours and two massive sixes.

His innings powered the West Indies’ chase alongside opener Brandon King (102), with the victory helping the home side seal a 2-1 series triumph in the three-match ODI series.

Carty’s knock also meant the 27-year-old became the first player from the remote Caribbean island of Sint Maarten to score an international century for the West Indies.

Earlier, pacer Matthew Forde (3/46) removed the dangerous Will Jacks in just his second over as England were reduced to 24/4, with Dan Mousley (57), Sam Curran (40) and Jofra Archer (38 not

out) helping the tourists to a respectable score with some lofty late hitting.

Carty joined King at the crease with the score on 42 and the duo put on 209 for the second wicket at a good rate to put the West Indies in a winning position, before in-form skipper Shai Hope (5 not out) came in at the end to help seal the result.

King was named Player of the Match for his steady innings at the top of the West Indies’ batting order, while Forde was adjudged Player of the Series for his eight wickets across the three contests.
