Kerala’s 1st intl Indie music festival starts today

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s first International Indie Music Festival (IIMF) will begin at the Kerala Arts and Crafts Village on Tuesday evening.

The festival will start at 6 pm with the musical performance of Oorali, Kerala’s favourite band. Then the Italian band Roc Flowers will take the stage. Their genre of music is hip hop.

Anslom, who is also the cultural ambassador of Papua New Guinea, will provide a new experience with his country’s unique music. Anslom, the third performer will present reggae music.

With a dozen installations, a stage and a gate, the Crafts Village is decked out for the festival. The installations focus on the theme of liberation.

Indie music is music in which music bands compose their own songs, record music and perform with well-equipped instruments, sound and light systems. Organised on the scale of the film festival and theater festival, this annual music festival of Kerala is the first and leading festival of indie music in the country.

The Kerala Arts and Crafts Village is organising the International Indie Music Festival in collaboration with Lazie Indie Magazine, a leading international publication on indie music.

During the five-day festival, the program will be held from 6 pm onward daily. Four to five bands will perform each evening. Audience can enter the Crafts Village from 5 pm onward. Regular visits to the Crafts Village will end at 5 pm on festival days.

Fourteen Indian and seven international names are bringing their own indie music to the festival.

IIMF is also a platform for musical collaboration among them. The festival also provides an opportunity for the artistes of Kerala to shine on the global stage.
