Amritsar: A man attempted to shoot Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar here on Wednesday morning, police said.
He said that the suspect has been apprehended. He has been identified as Narain Singh Chaura.
Police said that he has a criminal background. Police were investigating further.
Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, speaking to media persons, confirmed that there was an attempt to assassinate Badal and said that alert police foiled the attempt and apprehended the suspect.
Meanwhile, leaders from SAD, Congress and BJP have condemned the incident.
