New Delhi: Asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal were two sides of the same coin, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Sunday that both of them feel insecure about strong leaders and do not tolerate them.

He appealed the people of Delhi to give a chance to the Congress and bring back the glorious era of progress and development in the national capital as was witnessed during the tenure of Sheila Dikshit.

Addressing a public meeting in Mustafabad in support of the Congress candidate Ali Mehdi, Kharge challenged both Modi and Kejriwal to tell what they had done for the country.

Taking a jibe at Kejriwal for lying to people by claiming to bring in an honest government, Kharge pointed out how he (Kejriwal) started from a small car and now travels in a convoy of 10-20 vehicles and lives in a ‘Sheesh Mahal’.

He alleged that Kejriwal cheated anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and the people of Delhi with his lies.

The Congress president alleged that, PM Modi was no different as both were masters in lying. He pointed out how Modi would promise to bring back black money from foreign countries and deposit Rs 15 lakh each in every Indian’s bank account and provide two crore jobs every year.

He accused both Modi and Kejriwal of feeling insecure about strong leaders. He said Kejriwal had appointed a Chief Minister and told it on her face that she was a temporary Chief Minister.

In the same way, he said, Modi also sidelines any such leader whom he considers to be stronger.

Appealing people to take these elections seriously, he urged them to come out and vote for the Congress party, which takes along everyone. He reminded them that it was the Congress which brought freedom to the country and after independence built the country as a democracy where everyone is equal.

Referring to the violence and riots that took place in Delhi, he asked the people whether Kejriwal or anyone from the BJP had visited them. He said that it was the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who stood by them.

He said that is the philosophy of Congress to stand by people and take along everyone.

Kharge reiterated the guarantees for the people of Delhi including Rs 2,500 per month for women, Rs 8,500 monthly stipend for educated youth, 300 units of free power, cooking gas for Rs 500 per cylinder, ration kit and Rs 25 lakh health insurance cover for everyone.
