London: Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until the end of June 2027, with the option to extend his stay until 2028.
The new contract is a boost for the club on the verge of starting the new Premier League season.
The 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder moved to Manchester United from Sporting Club de Portugal in January 2020 and has scored 79 goals in 234 appearances, as well as giving 67 assists.
He had previously signed a new contract in 2022, and this had been due to expire in 2026. He was named as club captain ahead of Harry Maguire in the summer of 2023.
“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I can see how positive the future is going to be, and I am relishing leading this team forward.”
“I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club,” commented the player on the club website.
