Mubarak Gul takes oath as Pro-tem Speaker of J&K Assembly

Srinagar: National Conference leader and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mubarak Gul on Saturday took oath as Pro-tem Speaker of J&K Assembly.

Officials said Gul was administered the oath by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar. He will remain as Pro-tem Speaker til elections are held for the new Speaker.

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor, in pursuance to Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, appointed Gul as Speaker Pro-tem. He shall administer the oath/affirmation to all members of the J&K Legislative Assembly for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in terms of Section 24 of the aforesaid Act.

The oath/affirmation will be administered in the Legislative Assembly, Srinagar, on October 21, at 2 pm.

Senior NC leader Gul was elected sixth successive term early this month in the Assembly election from Eidgah constituency in Srinagar district. Born in 1952, Gul is a law graduate and was elected to the J&K Assembly in 1983, 1986, 2002, 2008, and 2014. In 1987, he was elected member of J&K Legislative Counsel. He was unanimously elected as a Speaker of the J&K Assembly in 2013.
