The Panchamahabhute Foundation successfully hosted the ‘Mumbai Phalotsav 2025’, a unique and impactful free fruit-tree distribution drive, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Shivaji Park, Dadar. The event began at 9:00 AM and saw the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of environment-conscious citizens from across the city.

The initiative was deeply inspired by two transformative campaigns: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s, ‘Green Maharashtra’.

In alignment with these visions, the Panchamahabhute Foundation took the lead in promoting urban greening and environmental awareness.

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries including Ranjit Savarkar (President, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Smarak); Manjiri Marathe (Treasurer); MLC and BJP Mahila Morcha Maharashtra State President, Chitra Kishor Wagh; and Sameer Wankhede (Anti-Narcotics Bureau Officer). Also present were the Foundation’s core team – Founder Ameet Sawant, Santosh Sawant, Amol Parab, office bearers, and dedicated NSS volunteers.

Over 150 housing societies had registered to receive fruit-trees at the event. Each participant, individuals and organizations, received five fruit saplings for free, to plant in their homes, balconies, staircases, compounds, temples, schools, colleges, NGOs and farmhouse.

The Panchamahabhute Foundation is committed to the preservation, protection, and promotion of the five great elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) – Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space, that constitute nature. The Foundation consistently works towards involving the public in meaningful environmental action.

Previous initiatives by the NGO include ‘No Bath Day’, ‘2-Minute Shower’, and ‘Say No to Plastic’, alongside infrastructure-based efforts like urban forests, rainwater harvesting, percolation pits, beach cleanup, and nail-free tree supports. The ‘Paryavaran Vighnaharta’ state-level eco-friendly Ganesh idol and decoration contest is also one of its notable initiatives.

Mumbai Phalotsav 2025 was launched with the purpose of encouraging large-scale tree plantation within the urban landscape to combat the rising threats of global warming and carbon emissions. Thousands of fruit-trees were distributed under this initiative, aiming not only to provide shade and cleaner air, but also to deliver long-term benefits like food, biodiversity, and natural cooling.

The message is clear — Plant trees. Nurture nature. Heal the Earth.

Together, let us build a greener, healthier, and fruit-filled Mumbai for future generations.
