No obstruction to patrolling in Depsang: Army

New Delhi: The Army on Wednesday clarified that Indian and Chinese troops are following the general understanding reached with regard to patrolling in Depsang in eastern Ladakh and there is no obstruction from either side.

Stating that the news published in an English daily as ‘speculative and bereft of facts’, the Army in a statement clarified that based on consensus achieved on 21 October 2024, both sides have effectively carried out disengagement. Indian side has resumed patrolling to its traditional patrolling areas, the Army said.

The Army said that both sides are abiding by the consensus and no road blocks have been created by either side. It is clarified that the subject article published in the English daily today is speculative and bereft of facts

The Army further said that all media houses are requested to verify facts before publishing such sensitive articles and exercise due editorial discretions.

It may be mentioned that a news published in an English daily said that there has been a deadlock in the talks between the military officials of India and China regarding the methods of patrolling.

Notably, after a standoff of about four-and-a-half years between India and China, a consensus was reached on the patrolling system on October 21, after which both sides withdrew their troops from Depsang and Demchok areas in Eastern Ladakh and resumed patrolling.
