New Delhi: Stepping up its attack at the BJP-led government at the Centre over the Adani Group issue, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday said the Opposition parties will not step back till the ruling dispensation gives nod for a discussion over the same in the Parliament.

“Lakhs of crores of money of people drowned. Is this issue should not be discussed in House ? During the UPA (United Progressive Alliance-led by Congress) regime on various issues raised by BJP, we had allowed Rule 267 “, the Rajya Sabha MP said referring to Opposition’s demand to discuss Adani issue in Parliament, at a joint press conference here.

He also claimed that 17 Opposition parties, including Congress on Monday decided to demand a discussion over this issue (Adani Group).

Accusing the ruling BJP of shielding Adani, Singh said, “We want an answer from the PM Narendra Modi ji over this issue: Digvijaya Singh. We will not step back till Narendra Modi ji agress for the discussion. There shoud be a discussion in House over the matter.”

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 2 pm , amid uproar by the Opposition over the Adani issue.

Earlier in the day, the Opposition MPs including Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament House, reiterating its demand to the Centre to either constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or set up an inquiry under the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to look into the Hindenburg Research report, which alleged that Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.

The MPs holding banner and placards shouted slogans against the Narendra Modi-led government over the issue.

A meeting of the Opposition parties was also held at the office of Kharge in Parliament building over the same.
