Madrid: Spain’s national railroad network Renfe has canceled 1,548 medium and long-distance trains, as its workers are planning to walk off the job in the coming days, according to the schedule.

Strikes called by local trade unions to demand guarantees of workers’ rights are scheduled for November 24 and 30, as well as December 1, 4 and 5. A total of 15,000 workers are expected to join the industrial action.

The railroad network will offer passengers affected by the cancellations to exchange their tickets for other trains that remain on the schedule, when possible. Passengers will also be able to cancel or change their ticket to another date free of charge.

Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente, who took office on Tuesday, will resume contacts with the unions to find a solution to the dispute, as meetings with the former minister’s team had fallen through, El Pais reported.
