Srinagar: The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members stalled the proceedings of the house in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the second consecutive day on Thursday protesting over the passing of a resolution for the restoration of special status to J&K.

The resolution which was passed through voice vote on Wednesday called upon the Central Government to initiate dialogue with elected representatives of the people of J&K for restoration of special status, constitutional guarantees and to work out constitutional mechanisms for restoring these provisions.

Amid the pandemonium in the house the speaker first adjourned the house for 15 minutes but soon after the members assembled the opposition members started shouting slogans and there was a heated exchange of the words in between the ruling and the opposition members over certain issues.

Some of the BJP members who barged into the well were dragged out of the house by the Marshalls for creating trouble.

As the calm in the house could not be restored the speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned it for the day.

Earlier as soon as the legislators assembled this morning for the day, the Speaker asked MLA Baramulla Javaid Baig to initiate the discussion on Lieutenant Governor’s address. However Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma stood up and referred to yesterday’s resolution saying it was illegal and unconstitutional.

In the meantime, MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed reached the well of the House with a banner which read “We demand restoration of Artical 370 and release of prisoners.”

This annoyed BJP legislators who tried to snatch the banner. A scuffle broke out as several legislators jumped in the well of the House torn the banner into pieces.

In the pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
