PM Modi arrives in Port of Spain, welcomed by PM Kamala Persad Bissessar and entire cabinet

Port of Spain/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Port of Spain, on a two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, and in a special gesture, was welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Kamala Persad Bissessar and the entire cabinet.

PM Modi, in a post on X, thanked the T&T PM and her cabinet for the special welcome, and said the visit will further cement bilateral ties between the two nations.

“Landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. I thank Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, distinguished members of the Cabinet and MPs for the gesture of welcoming me at the airport.

“This visit will further cement bilateral ties between our nations. Looking forward to addressing a community programme in a few hours from now.”

As his plane landed at Piarco International Airport, PM Kamala Persad Bissessar and the entire cabinet of Trinidad & Tobago, including 38 Ministers and four MPs were at the airport to receive the Indian PM. Indian High Commissioner to Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit was also present.

The MEA spokesperson said in a post on X:

“PM @narendramodi has arrived in the capital city of Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago, to a warm ceremonial welcome & Guard of Honour.

“In a special gesture, PM was received by PM @MPKamla and members of her Cabinet & several other dignitaries @mfcagovtt at the airport.”

This is PM Modi’s first visit to the country as Prime Minister and the first bilateral visit at the Prime Ministerial level to Trinidad and Tobago since 1999.

PM Modi was accorded Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Port of Spain, T&T.

PM Persad-Bissessar was attired in a royal blue and silver sari.

In his departure statement, PM Modi had said:

“On 3-4 July, I will be in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, a country with which we share deep-rooted historical, cultural and people-to-people connect.

“I will meet President H.E. Mrs. Christine Carla Kangaloo, who was the Chief Guest at this year’s Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, and Prime Minister H.E. Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who has recently assumed office for the second term.

“Indians first arrived in Trinidad and Tobago 180 years ago. This visit will provide an opportunity to rejuvenate the special bonds of ancestry and kinship that unite us.”

PM Modi arrived here from Ghana.
