New Delhi/Hiroshima: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Quad grouping has established itself as an important platform for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, even as he announced that India would host the next Quad Leaders’ Summit in 2024.

Addressing the leaders of the Quad nations – US President Joe Biden, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and Australian PM Anthony Albanese, PM Modi said he was pleased to be taking part in the Quad summit meeting and to be among friends.

“The quad group has established itself as an important platform for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. There is no doubt at all about the fact that the Indo-Pacific is the engine for global trade, innovation and development.”

He said that the four leaders are in agreement that the security and success of the Quad is important not just for the region but for the entire world. “We are moving forward with a constructive agenda based on shared democratic values.”

“Through our shared efforts we are giving a practical dimension to our vision, and our cooperation on important issues like strategic technologies, reliable supply chains, health security, maritime security, and counter terrorism, is increasing.”

“Many nations and groups are announcing their Indo-Pacific strategies and vision,” he said, in reference to that announced by the EU.

“It is my belief that the Quad will continually strive for global good, human welfare, peace and prosperity.”

He thanked Australian PM Anthony Albanese for organising the Summit on the margins of the G7.

“We will be happy to hold the Quad Leaders’ Summit in India in 2024,” he said.

MEA spokesperson in a tweet said that the Quad leaders reviewed efforts to address Indo-Pacific’s priorities on health security, climate change, critical and emerging technologies, infrastructure, connectivity and maritime domain awareness.

“PM @narendramodi joined PM @AlboMP of Australia, PM @kishida230 of Japan and President @JoeBiden of USA @POTUS for the 3rd in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit.

“Leaders reviewed efforts to address Indo-Pacific’s priorities on health security, climate change, critical and emerging technologies, infrastructure, connectivity and maritime domain awareness.”
