After 9 months of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the circumstances in the latter country are grave. Extreme cold is being faced by the people amidst power cuts and lack of water, and for the first time, the people of the country are rebelling against President Zelensky. People also protested in small groups in cities like Kiev, Vinnytsia, and Mykolaiv. Zelensky is also reaping political benefits of the imposition of martial law.

Almost all the leaders of the opposition, including Viktor Medvedchuk were thrown in jail, and later, Medvedchuk escaped from prison. Zelensky has also unauthorized 11 prominent opposition groups, which also include opposition group For Life Party (FLP). The FLP was the largest opposition group in the assembly. Unauthorizing the opposition parties, Zelensky had alleged that these were Russia-supporters.

Further, Zelensky has also nationalised all the private TV channels, and the content to be telecast on the channels is to be first passed from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). War footages against Zelensky or the Ukrainian government are not allowed to be uploaded on social media. As per sources, USA’s CIA is also keeping an eye on the broadcasting.

Zelensky has also been successful in tightening the noose around the necks of his wealthy opponents because of Russia’s attack. He has confiscated 69% of the property of his rich opponents.
