As per an official statement released on Saturday, September 2, Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, has taken swift action in response to the horrific case of assault on a woman in Pratapgarh district. The 21-year-old victim, a tribal woman, was stripped naked and paraded by her husband and others, will receive significant support from the state government.

Ashok Gehlot has announced financial aid of 10 lakh INR to the victim, along with a government job.

On Saturday afternoon, CM Gehlot went to meet the victim and her family, personally, in Dhariyawad of Pratapgarh district. Gehlot made it clear that the criminals involved in this heinous act would face the strictest punishment through a fast-track court proceeding. He emphasized the need for society to condemn such tragic and inhuman incidents and asserted that the prevention of crimes against women is a top priority for his government.

Gehlot noted that the incident stemmed from a matrimonial dispute, and further, condemned the acts of the in-laws involved in the same. The CM also lauded the police, whose swift action into the matter resulted in the arrest of 7 accused, and the detainment of 4 others, within a few hours of the incident coming to light.

Director General of Police, Umesh Mishra, confirmed that the incident was a result of the ongoing dispute within the family. In response to the incident, a case has been registered against 10 accused under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act.

The incident occurred on Thursday, for which the Opposition BJP has made scathing comments on the Congress government, saying that the Ashok Gehlot-led regime has failed to contain the increasing number of crimes against women in the state.
