Security forces arrest militants, drug traffickers in Manipur operations

Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police carried out a series of successful operations across the state on March 17 and 18, 2026, leading to the arrest of multiple militants, extortionists, and drug traffickers, along with the seizure of arms, narcotics, and other incriminating items.

On March 17, security forces apprehended an active cadre of a militant outfit from Thoudam Laishram Leirak under Thoubal Police Station. Two 7.62×39 mm live rounds, a mobile phone with SIM card were recovered from his possession.

On March 18, an active woman cadre of an outfit was arrested from her residence. In a separate operation on the same day, another cadre was arrested from Imphal East.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested Md Altaf Hussain of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai under Irilbung Police Station yesterday from near Kwakta Sericulture Training Institute along NH-02 under Phougakchao Police Station in Bishnupur district.

Police seized a car, approximately 271 grams of heroin (No. 4), and a keypad mobile phone from his possession.

In another operation, one Laishram Kunjomani of Iram Siphai Mayai Leikai was arrested from Bora Gali, Thangal Bazar under City Police Station on March 17.

A total of 56,216 SP tablets and a mobile phone were recovered from him.

On March 18, Manipur Police arrested one Anil Guatam of Toribari Village under Kangpokpi Police Station, Senapati district, from Phougakchao Ikhai NAKA check point in Bishnupur district. Items seized from his possession included a three-wheeler auto-rickshaw, approximately 1.5 kg of opium, a carry backpack, a mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card.
