New Delhi: Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
An official communication said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment for a period of three years with effect from December 11, 2024.
Malhotra will succeed Shaktikanta Das who has remained at the helm of the central bank since December, 2018. The extended tenure of Das ends on Tuesday (December 10, 2024).
Malhotra is a 1990-batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre. He will assume charge as the 26th
Governor of RBI.
Malhotra holds B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He has held key positions at the Centre and his home cadre Rajasthan.
