Hyderabad: The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Michaung’” (pronounced as MIGJAUM) over Westcentral & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered at 1430 hours on Monday over the same region near Latitude 13.7°North and Longitude 80.7°East, about 100 km northeast of Chennai, 120 km southeast of Nellore, 220 km north-northeast of Puducherry, 250km south of Bapatla and 280 km south of Machilipatnam.
It is likely to intensify gradually and move nearly northwards almost parallel and close to south Andhra Pradesh coast and cross South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla during forenoon of December 5 as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin this evening.
Light to moderate rainfall at most places and heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam today and tomorrow.
The IMD said ‘Exceptionally heavy rainfall’ at one or two places is also likely over south coastal Andhra Pradesh during the later part of the day and over north coastal and adjoining south coastal Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over North coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, the bulletin said.
Light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy to extremely heavy falls is very likely in Raylaseema today and isolated heavy rainfall tomorrow and decrease thereafter, the bulletin added.
