Agartala: A week after the meeting of Tripura BJP’s ally TIPRA Motha with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a delegation of tribal leaders, including two ministers of the state, yesterday met Shah in New Delhi and discussed upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections scheduled for early next year.

Shah, accompanied by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal and BJP’s Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra, met the delegation at Parliament House. BJP’s Tripura president and Rajya Sabha member Rajib Bhattacharya, along with Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma and Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, also attended the meeting.

BJP sources said the meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was a routine political consultation and a strategic dialogue focused on multiple layers of Tripura’s political, social, and developmental priorities. During the discussion, the delegation placed strong emphasis on the need for accelerated development in tribal-dominated regions of the state.

The attention was drawn to issues such as livelihood opportunities, infrastructure development, healthcare accessibility, and quality education for tribal communities. Leaders highlighted the importance of ensuring that Central welfare schemes reach the grassroots level without delay, especially in remote and hilly areas of Tripura.

Amit Shah reportedly assured the leaders that the Central government is committed to ensuring peace, stability, and long-term prosperity in Tripura. He stressed that the Centre would continue extending full support to the state in bridging developmental gaps and improving the socio-economic condition of marginalised tribal communities, who form a significant portion of the state’s population.

Apart from developmental concerns, the meeting carried deep political significance as ADC elections draw closer. The BJP leadership is keen on consolidating its organisational presence in tribal belts, which hold the key to electoral outcomes. Sources revealed that the central leadership advised state leaders to strengthen grassroots engagement, enhance booth-level connectivity, and counter the opposition’s growing influence in the Autonomous District Council areas.

The delegation also discussed campaigning strategies, community outreach programs, and welfare-driven messaging that could resonate with tribal voters. The BJP aims to project itself as the party that can deliver stability, good governance, and inclusive development, positioning itself against regional forces that often dominate tribal politics in the state.

A party insider remarked that the meeting showcased a synergy between central and state-level leadership. “It was not just about election planning. The discussions also reinforced the government’s larger commitment towards the holistic development of Tripura’s tribal community. The meeting has set the tone for a coordinated political and administrative roadmap,” a source said.
