Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin today launched yet another pioneering initiative, christened the ‘Anbu Karangal’ scheme, aimed at providing Rs 2,000 per month to enable children who had lost both their parents or either a mother or a father to pursue their education until their school level.

The scheme, which was yet another flagship initiative of the DMK’s Dravidian Model Government, was launched by Mr Stalin commemorating the birth anniversary of DMK Stalwart, Party Founder and late CM M Karunanidhi here, after paying tributes to the late leader on the occasion.

Under the scheme, which was also aimed at preventing and reducing dropouts in schools, students who were struggling to pursue their education, having lost both or either one of their parents, could pursue their school education till they attain the age of 18.

Apart from providing a financial assistance of Rs 2,000 per month, the scheme also ensured provision of adequate training to hone the skills of these students after they finished their school education.

The scheme was launched as part of the Thayumanavar scheme, implemented by the Chief Minister last month, under which ration items were being delivered to elderly citizens and differently-abled people at their doorsteps.

Mr Stalin, on the occasion, distributed that assistance to the students at an official event held here.

Mr Stalin also distributed free laptops to students who had lost both their father and mother and had got admissions to higher educational institutions through the government’s efforts after they completed their Plus-2 (12th standard) board exams on the occasion.
