Tata Steel donates over Rs 1 Cr to Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata, for cancer patients

Kolkata: Tata Steel has recently made a substantial donation of Rs 1,00,73,480 to Tata Medical Centre (TMC) in Kolkata as a token of support and appreciation for their continued efforts to address the needs of cancer patients within and outside India.

The generous contribution was made possible through the auction of the first 4 coils (62 MT) of Cold Rolled Steel produced at Tata Steel’s newly commissioned state-of-the-art Cold Rolling Mill complex unit in Kalinganagar, Odisha, according to a media statement here on Friday.

The Cold Rolling Mill was commissioned on February 15, 2023, marking a significant milestone for Tata Steel, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to excellence and its enduring impact on the industry.

To commemorate this achievement, an auction was held on May 4, 2023, among Tata Steelium distributors, resulting in a remarkable sum exceeding Rs. 1 Crore.

On May 25, 2023, the cheque of Rs.1,00,73,480 was donated to Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata, in the presence of Tata Steelium Channel Partners – Naresh Steel from Mumbai, G K Ispat from Bangalore, and Shree Balajee from Chennai – the highest bidders at the auction.

The event was attended by Dr Pattatheyil Arun, Director, Tata Medical Centre, as well as Prabhat Kumar, Vice President, Marketing and Sales (Flat Products), Tata Steel, and Praveen Shrivastava, Chief of Marketing and Sales (Branded Product and Retail), Tata Steel alongside other members from TMC and Tata Steel.

Dr. Pattatheyil Arun, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, is delighted and immensely thankful for the magnanimity and sense of service demonstrated by Tata Steelium channel partners. These efforts will continue to motivate us to work harder, with the support of the community, to alleviate the hardships that patients endure in their prolonged and costly battles against cancer.”

Prabhat Kumar, representing Tata Steel, emphasised the Company’s commitment to building an empowered community through conscientious collaboration.
