Telangana pegs 2023-24 Budget at Rs 2.90 lakh crore

Hyderabad: Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday presented a budget of Rs 2.90 lakh crore for 2023-24, up from about Rs 2.56 lakh crore last year.

Like last year, in the 2023-24 budget also proposed an outlay of Rs 17,700 crore for the state government’s flagship Dalit welfare scheme ‘Dalit Bandhu’.

“For the financial year 2023-24, I am proposing a total expenditure of Rs 2,90,396 lakh crores. Out of this, revenue expenditure is Rs 2,11,685 lakh crore and capital expenditure is Rs 37,525 crore”,the Minister said

In Fy 2022-23, the revenue expenditure and Capital expenditure at Rs.1,89,274 crores and Rs.29,724 crore respectively.

In his fourth budget presentation, Harish Rao said despite restrictions and discrimination by the centre, Telangana has not compromised on the development and welfare programmes of the people.

In his speech , he said facing many obstacles and challenges, Telangana is progressing well in an inspiring manner and the state has achieved many firsts within the short period of eight and a half years under the leadership of chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao

In his 71-pages budget speech, Harish Rao claimed that “whatever scheme that is taken up by the Chief Minister is only meant for the welfare of the people and not for any electoral gains”.

Telagnana Government accords a Lion’s Share of Rs 36,750 crore in the budget to Special Development Fund for Scheduled castes.

Eight and a half year old Telangana has set an example to the entire country in development.It has ushered in a golden era in welfare programmes.Many programmes conceived and introduced by the Chief Minister KCR have received international recognition.People from other states are also demanding development on the lines of Telangana.Telangana model of development is getting accolades across the country, the Minister added .

With growing consumption and investment levels, GSDP growth in Telangana is poised for higher growth despite the possibility of recession threatening the growth across the globe, he added.

Earlier, the Finance Minister offered prayers at TTDs Srivenkateswara swamy temple at Jubilee hills in the city and kept the budget papers at the feet of lord Balaji.

Telangana Cabinet on Sunday approved the State budget for 2023-24 during a meeting held at Pragati Bhavan here.

This would be the last budget in the second term of the BRS government.

With assembly elections slated for later this year, sources said that KCR-led BRS government has allotted a lion’s share of the budget to welfare schemes.

Legislative Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy presented the budget in the Legislative Council .

There will be no sitting on February 7.

The budget session will continue till February 12 as decided at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).

The general discussion on Budget along with the reply by the Minister will be taken up on February 8.
